In this key role, the Foundry Production Superintendent will receive on-the-job training and experience by current tenure superintendent.

 

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Foundry Production Superintendent will oversee and coordinate all green sand molding and gray iron melting operations, ensuring metallurgical quality, safety compliance, and production efficiency. This leader will manage daily activities, supervise teams, and drive continuous improvement across melting, molding, core room and cleaning room processes. The ideal candidate brings some knowledge in induction furnace melting, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to operational excellence in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

FOUNDRY PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Supervision

· Champion company culture and core values.

· Lead and manage foundry teams (weekdays and periodic night furnace sintering processes), assigning tasks and ensuring production and quality targets are met.

· Support, train and develop pattern-shop, mold makers, melt operators, cleaning room and lab, promoting safety, teamwork, and process discipline.

· Handle workforce management, including training, discipline, labor relations, and work rule enforcement.

· Actively support sales and quality teams during customer interactions.

Production & Process Management

· Plan, support, and execute production schedules (along with VP of Operations) to meet customer quality demands and OTD deadlines.

· Monitor and optimize molding and melting operations for efficiency, quality, and cost control.

· Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, outsourcing, planning, cleaning, core, products, quality, and maintenance teams to align goals and resolve issues.

Quality & Compliance

· Enforce quality control standards and conduct regular inspections of molds and castings.

· Ensure melts meet precise chemical and temperature specifications.

· Maintain adherence to ISO standards and OSHA safety regulations.

· Support Roloff Mfg initiatives, safety meetings, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions.

Equipment & Maintenance

· Oversee furnace performance and maintenance, including refractory lining and electrodes.

· Coordinate and support preventive maintenance and capital equipment projects with engineering and maintenance teams.

· Support maintenance staff with equipment repairs and upgrades to minimize downtime.

Documentation & Reporting

· Maintain and guide departments to maintain accurate records of production, material usage, equipment logs, safety compliance, and employee requests for time off.

Foundry Operations Oversight

· Ensure readiness of cores, molds, and job tickets.

· Monitor furnace temperatures, pouring schedules.

· Ensure proper completion and filing of melt forms.

· Maintain organized storage and safe handling of raw materials and chemicals.

· Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on energy efficiency and cost reduction.

FOUNDRY PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT QUALIFICATIONS:

· Preferred: Some experience in a foundry, knowledge of variety of areas of a gray iron foundry.

· Preferred: Some experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

· Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

· High School diploma or GED required.

· Preferred: Some knowledge of induction furnace operations, green sand, metallurgy, and/or foundry safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD HELP YOU THRIVE:

· Prior supervisory or team lead experience in a foundry setting.

· Hands-on experience with Gray Iron and/or Green Sand Molding.

· Demonstrated problem-solving skills in real-world manufacturing scenarios.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
